Independent technical advice, AI included

I give independent, fully remote advice on your architecture, code or AI plans, before you start a project or accept a proposal. You receive written recommendations your team can act on.

Advice on the decisions that shape your project

A technology choice, an unfamiliar codebase or a supplier's proposal is hard to judge from the outside. I examine the context, explain the trade-offs and name the questions to settle before you commit.

It also suits founders building with AI tools who need the output reviewed and the next steps structured.

What the review can cover

  • A technical plan based on your product goals and constraints
  • An architecture or code review with prioritised recommendations
  • An assessment of where AI can help your product or team, and where it cannot
  • A review of a supplier's proposal, assumptions and scope
  • Guidance on development, testing and release practices
  • A written record of decisions, open questions and next steps

How it works

From your first message to the handover

The same four steps on every engagement, so you know what happens next and what you receive.

  1. You describe your project

Send a short brief on Malt or LinkedIn: your project, budget and target date. I confirm availability and the next step.

  2. We agree the scope

Scope, schedule, pricing (fixed price or day rate), working hours and how we communicate, agreed in writing before work starts.

  3. You follow the work

Code reviews, demos or written reports keep progress visible. Every change I deliver is reviewed and tested.

  4. Handover and follow-up

Documentation, recommendations and, for development work, code whose rights the contract assigns to you. Maintenance by agreement.

Projects

Architectures I built and lived with

My advice comes from projects whose architecture I built and then lived with, on client engagements and on my own tool.

  1. Storybook of the Sciences Po design system: the stepper component in red, its individual states and step-by-step progressions, with the component list in the sidebar

    One 18-month engagement · 3 projects

Institutional design system for React and Angular

Web Components let one library serve React and Angular and render on the server, with components built around RGAA 4.1 and WCAG 2.1 AA requirements.

  2. Sciences Po · Confidential project

    2026 · 6 months

    Confidential · NDA

Full-stack foundation of an academic portal

A Spring Boot backend and a multi-zone Next.js frontend, decided and built with another developer as the foundation every later feature relies on.

  3. Khartis layout step: a finished world map of population in 2023, proportional circles in five classes from peach to purple, with its title, legend and sources

    Thematic mapping with no server

Every step runs in the browser, up to millions of rows and even offline, so no server ever receives the user's data. A complete rewrite designed by the Cartography Lab, which I developed.

  4. Home page of ragmir.com: the title “Agentic RAG. For developers. With your sources.”, install and use case buttons, and a terminal demo where a coding agent adds project documents to Ragmir

    Cited search for coding agents

Coding agents get cited passages without your files going to a hosted index, with opt-in semantic search and performance measured on real repositories.

About

Advice from someone who still writes the code

My judgement on architecture, testing and releases was formed on delivered projects, from Oney's landing pages to Suzuki France's national platforms. That was before AI coding tools, and my advice on AI comes from using it in my own work.

Through jCode, I work with public institutions, established companies and startups. My own products, WorkoutGen and Ragmir, taught me what follows a release.

FAQ

Getting technical advice

Do I need to be a developer?

No. I explain the review in terms of your product, budget and constraints, with technical detail only where it helps you weigh a choice or brief a developer.

How does consulting differ from development work?

Consulting recommends; a development engagement also carries out the agreed work, and the two can be combined. If you are deciding who should build an AI feature, the guide to choosing a freelancer, an agency or a hire compares the three options.

Can you support us over several months?

Yes, on a few agreed days each month: architecture decisions, code reviews and advice on how your developers use coding agents. Meeting times are agreed with your team, and the rest runs in writing.

Can you review code produced by AI tools?

Yes. I develop with AI coding tools such as Claude Code and Codex myself. I review the code, its behaviour and its fit with your application, then set written priorities for fixes, tests and further development.

Can you tell us whether we need AI at all?

Yes, and the answer is often no. Many needs are met by a plain automation or a few lines of code, which cost less to run and are easier to audit than a model. I recommend AI only where rules fall short, and say so in writing.

How is the work priced?

A focused review or a working session is quoted against an agreed scope. Ongoing support is billed by the day, at an indicative €550 excluding VAT as of October 2026.
